Last night (1st May), Team Bodugi put their gladrags on and headed off to the Betview awards at the Grosvenor house hotel Park Lane. After a few glasses of champagne, the team took to their table for the ceremony, hosted by the inimitable Jeff Stelling.
Bodugi were delighted to scoop the Newcomer of the Year award, triumphing despite stiff competition from Bet Butler and Bettor. Michael Wilson and Dave Nevison took to the stage to accept their trophy. Michael Wilson said:
"It's amazing news, after so much hard work from everyone on the team, to get this recognition from the industry. It shows that we're definitely heading in the right direction, and social betting is gathering speed all the time."
One of Bodugi's special table guests was racing pundit Eddie the Shoe, who provided this succinct analysis of the evening:
The Results of the Post-Betview Awards Sleeping Arrangement Handicap
Michael: Tracked leader, strong progress to challenge when hampered and unseated by loose blonde approaching 2am.
Rory: Started slowly, relentless headway to chase leaders approaching closing time soon paid for exertions and dropped off the pace. Pulled up. Returned in an ambulance.
Dave: Sweating in preliminaries. Soon established clear lead. Began to tire approaching third table dance. Hopelessly outpaced closing stages but plodded on to gain minor prize.
Robin: Blinkered over one eye. Took a keen hold. With leaders to 3am. Promising effort.
Needless to say, there are a few heavy heads in the office this morning, but we are all delighted with the progress Bodugi has made in its first year, and the team are determined to push on, developing innovative, engaging social betting experiences.
